Who owns this toll free number?

The short answer

The subscriber's name is private, but you can see the RespOrg that controls it, its status, and its history since 2018. Type the number above.

You can use the lookup tool to see the phone company responsible for any number that's in use, but they aren't the customer. There really is no database of the owners, and no phone company is allowed to give out customer data. Phone companies use the customer name and address as part of the security for transfers.

Is that company the owner?

Not usually. It's the phone company that manages the number for whoever uses it. Tap the name to see that company's page here on Resporgs.com. Phone companies won't give out a customer's name.

What's a RespOrg?

Short for Responsible Organization: the company registered with Somos, the national toll free registry, that manages a specific toll free number. Every working toll free number in North America is controlled by exactly one RespOrg at a time. The RespOrg can activate it, release it, transfer it, or let it drop into disconnect. RespOrgs aren't necessarily the phone carrier that connects your calls. Some are carriers themselves; others are resellers or specialists.

When your own number is on someone else's account

Maybe an agency or a former phone company set it up for you. If you own it, the RespOrg is required to release it to you. You don't start the transfer with them, you initiate it with the new company. Whatever company you pick will give you a form that basically just tells them where to send the calls and who to bill, and authorizes them to take over the number. If the current RespOrg refuses or doesn't respond, it can be done through the Somos Helpdesk. If you're stuck, ask me.

If you want a number someone else has

That's a different question. Here's every way to still get a number someone else has, and why some numbers aren't for sale at any price. You may have to get a little more creative, just like you did for your domain name, but there are still many good options available for $49. VanityNumbers.com is built around the goal of helping you dig deeper and find options, even when the obvious first choice isn't available.
